John Begley

Web & Graphic Designer

They Call Me…

Bronco, Baggs, Bagpipes, John Begley Jr. (reference to Ed Begley Jr., not actually a junior), Reader John, Yanni, and the UX Guy.

I Bet You Don’t Know:

  • I have performed in choirs at both Carnegie Hall & St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
  • I am a tonsured Reader in the Eastern Orthodox church and can be heard chanting at St. Basil the Great Orthodox church on a regular basis.
  • I am engaged to an opera singer who is also a doctor in vocal performance.
  • My father and one of my brothers are Eastern Orthodox priests.
  • I have a collection of four cases of beer that I have been aging for as much as five years.

At Work:

At Lure, I’m able utilize my wide range of skills in a way that I would be unable to in a larger company. I’m not limited to just design. I am able to utilize my front-end web development skills and grow in UX design through heat-mapping software. I help clients communicate their message in a visual, effective, and usable way through a wide variety of media.

The visual arts have always been my first love, but I’ve never been good at creating my own unique fine-art concepts, therefore, design was the perfect choice. It’s the marriage of visual creativity with direction and media needs. In the past couple of years, my interest has gone toward UX design. There are countless user interfaces out there that are painful to use. I want to solve those problems and be a leader in the industry.

My work space shows how I like to have fun. You’ll find Legos, Nerf guns, sports memorabilia, and seasonal decorations if you visit me.

Outside of Work:

I have been a bit of a nomad. I have lived in 5 different states in my life. My parents have been married for over 40 years. I have two younger brothers. I recently adopted a cat. This is my first experience as a primary caregiver.

I enjoy visiting local breweries regularly to partake in the wide range of beers Kansas City has to offer.

I’m a total nerd when it comes to movies & shows. I’m a huge fan of both Star Trek & Star Wars, comic books (including movies & shows), and fantasy shows like Game of Thrones.

Musically, I’m a metal head. I also enjoy progressive rock… meaning that progressive metal is my favorite blend of genres. I’ve been a Metallica fan since I was very young, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve moved away from what you hear on the radio and find small, niche bands online that match my interest.
