Lure Creative’s social media team recently attended a social media presentation by a Houzz community evangelist to get the skinny on what contractors should be doing with their Houzz profiles to get the most out of them. And boy did we get some good information! Learn the basics of the social network with this Houzz introductory guide.

How Are Homeowners Using Houzz?

Houzz has over 16 million unique viewers to their website each and every month. The following statistics are specific to the Kansas City metro area but are similar in cities across the nation. 93% of these viewers are homeowners, of which 79% are between the ages of 35-64. This means Houzz users are predominately a more established audience. 82% are looking to decorate, 42% are looking to remodel, and 11% are looking to build a brand new home and begin their search to do so about a year before their project.

How to Get Your Houzz Profile in Front of These Homeowners for Contractor Marketing

The Houzz community evangelist shared three great tips for getting your professional profile to show up more often in the search results.

  • Complete your professional profile

The first tip is to completely fill out your professional profile. In fact, there is a profile completion widget that shows you the level of completeness. The more information that you provide about your company and services, the more you will show up in homeowners’ search results.

  •  Ask your customers for reviews

A second tip in getting your profile to show up in front of more homeowners is to get your clients to leave reviews. Houzz makes it nice and easy for you. When you are in your Houzz profile, click the “Get Reviews” button. This opens up a tool that allows for you to enter the email addresses of your clients. Houzz will then generate an email that you can customize. The email will be sent separately to each of your clients from your email address and a link will take them right to the page where they can leave their testimonial. You have to make it easy for them and Houzz does.

  • Stay active in Houzz

The final tip is to stay active in Houzz. There are two ways to do this. The first is to upload more photos to your project portfolio. The second way is to participate in the discussions. This option is a little bit easier. All you have to do is click “Advice” on the top panel and choose a conversation to participate in.
