How to Use Geo-Targeted City Pages for SEO

January 31, 2013

It’s hard to get to the first page of search results. Anyone who tells you any differently is blowing smoke.  The reason it’s so hard is because everyone wants to be there.  In the world of online search. Google is god.  They make the rules and all we mere mortals can do is try our best to figure out what works and what doesn’t. In this eternal quest for page one, we’ve discovered a few things.  Here at Lure Creative, we’ve read industry experts’ blogs, we’ve tested theories on the Internet, we’ve experimented, we’ve learned. And what we’ve learned is that there is no single thing you can do to reach page one on search results.  However, there are a lot of small things you can do that will move you up the results page.  From keywords and title tags to cop length and linking, there are best practices that work.  When you put them all together, that’s when you start to see impressive results.

Increase Your Website’s Search Engine Results Page with Geo-Targeting

Geo-targeting is one of those strategies.  We have found that when you target a specific city with specific keywords, or geotargeting, you can rank higher in the search engine results than your competition.  Rather than targeting the major city your business resides in, focus on the smaller surrounding cities and create a Geo Page for those particular cities.  We have our copywriter create a 350 word page of copy about your company that highlights your products/services but also uses a particular city as a keyword.  Many consumers search with local terms.  When your prospective customers look for you by typing in “your service” plus “their city”, your GEO page will pop up first because your competition hasn’t optimized a page for that smaller city. For instance, if you own a lawn care company in Kansas City, you’ve probably been trying to rank for the keywords, “lawn care, Kansas City”. Guess what? So has every lawn care company in Kansas City.  With Geo-targeted pages, you can focus on “lawn care, Overland Park” or “lawn care, Olathe” and instead of competing with every lawn care company in Kansas City, now you rank at the top for those keywords.

Geo-Targeting is Just One of Many Effective SEO Strategies for Your Website

Google changes the rules all the time and it’s hard to keep up with them, but we eat, sleep and breathe the Internet, so you don’t have to.  Geo-targeting is just one trick up our sleeve.  We have many others. Give Lure Creative a call at toll free (855) 765-4500 and we can help you rank higher in the search engine results page.  From creating dozens of Geo pages and Services pages to using the right Keywords and Linking technique, we will tell you all of the do’s and don’ts to get your website ranking high.
