The 5 Must-Haves for Every Blog Post

March 5, 2014

Did you know that 61% of consumers say they feel better about a company that delivers custom content, such as blog posts? In fact, consumers are also more likely to buy from a company that delivers custom content. So how can you use this to your advantage? The Lure Creative content marketing team recommends updating your blog with informational or educational content each month. Include these 5 must-haves in your blog posts to get the most exposure out of them.

Include a powerful headline and H2s.

It is important that the title of your blog post catches the eye of your target audience. Through our content marketing research, we have found How To articles and articles that feature lists, such as Top 5 Lists, are clicked on more frequently. We have also found that H2s should serve as a solid summary of the paragraph below to appeal to readers who prefer to skim articles. An H2 a sub-headline. For example, “Include a powerful headline and H2s” is an H2. Strong H2s work to keep viewers on a page for a longer amount of time, which increases the likeliness that they will explore your website.

Use keywords that are pertinent to your industry and company.

Do you know which search keywords are pertinent to your industry and company? If not, you should check out Google Webmaster Tools. Google Webmaster Tools will provide you with keywords that people have used to search for your company. Be sure to include these throughout your blog post and headlines, but don’t overdo it! Stuffing your blog post with keywords can appear like spam to search engines and they may end up ranking your blog post lower in searches.

End each blog post with a call to action.

So you are finished with your blog post. Now what? Our recommendation is that you conclude your blog post with a call to action. This is a lead generation technique that takes your blog post one step further by providing customers and potential customers with the information they need to contact your company, make a purchase, or learn more about your products or services. Without a call to action, they simply close a post and move on.

Always include a photo in your blog post.

40% of people will respond better to visual information than plain text. Using a photo is more appealing to people and helps to gain their attention. Because of this, blog posts with an appealing image receive more traffic.

Add links and meta-descriptions for SEO value.

The last tip we have for you is to include links and meta-descriptions. These components play a key role in adding SEO value to your blog post. Our recommendation for adding links is about one per every 150 words. Use links to send blog viewers to other pages on your website that expand upon what you are referencing, other blog posts that relate to your topic, or contact forms and product pages. We also recommend adding a meta-description that is between 120 and 150 characters. A meta-description is the snippet of text that is shown below your URL in search engine results. You can add a meta-description in the dashboard where you add a new blog post.

Now you have all of the essentials to produce a blog post that will grab customers’ and potential customers’ attention, direct them to more information about your company, and satisfy the search engines. What is the next step? Distributing this content through social networks and email campaigns. Learn more about how this works as an important part of the inbound marketing process: What Is Inbound Marketing?
