Think of SEO as an Investment

Marketing is complicated. There are a lot of moving parts. Sometimes, we wish we could just be blunt with the business owners we are trying to help and tell them the cold, hard truth without sounding like rude, demeaning, know-it-alls. So, in an effort to enlighten and not frighten, we give you our new blog series “You’ve Been Schooled!”. We hope it will help business owners understand marketing a little better and make better decisions with their marketing dollars. Today’s topic is SEO and our expert is Nick White.

If I could vent about (ahem…educate) business owners on SEO, I would tell them this:

Think of SEO as an Investment

“Business owners should think of Search Engine Optimization as investing in their website, which in turn is investing in their business. If they think of spending money on SEO like they do with HomeAdvisor, ads, social media, or radio, they are going to be disappointed when they don’t have immediate results or quick leads. Yes, SEO can lead to an initial boost in website traffic, depending on where they are currently ranking and how well-optimized their website is currently, but the real results they feel usually come after several months of SEO work has been implemented for their website. It helps to remember that SEO is much closer to “owning” your traffic, especially compared to “renting” it from social media, paid ads, etc. because SEO gains have a much longer shelf life than those short-term tools. You have to be looking at the future as much as the present.”

And there you have it. Think about this the next time you are looking at SEO stats. SEO is a long game, so be patient and don’t expect results overnight. Rest assured your money is working to get you where you want to be.

We hope this helps you in your quest to grow your business. Should you need marketing help with SEO or anything else, please contact Lure Creative and we will be happy to share our insight and expertise (but not in a bossy, condescending way) to help your business Get Found and Be Known.
